Auditions for a fiction-documentary project

Welcome to auditions for a fiction-documentary project directed by Sofia Stupenkova. A group audition will be held at the NoName Theatre (Hietaniemenkatu 7B) on Monday 29 April at 7 pm. Please note that you must register in advance in order to participate.
The PROJECT
A fiction-documentary project incorporating elements of participatory theatre to explore the theme of belonging. Where, when or with whom do we feel that we are in the right place? Does the place define us? Do we need the feeling of the tribe? Are we strangers to each other?
The result is a collective exploration of what belonging means for the inhabitants of Helsinki — including both humans and non-humans, locals and expats.
We are looking for actors who are eager to take interviews with people they don’t know and possibly write their own fictional texts for the production.
ACTING ROLES
There are no age or gender requirements. 3–4 people will be chosen to participate based on the casting session.
BACKSTAGE CREW
If you’re interested in tech operation, stage management or other backstage tasks, please contact the producer (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.).
AVAILABILITY
You must be available for all of the final rehearsals in the period 10–13 June and for the two performance on 14 & 15 June. Rehearsals (about two per week) will start asap after the auditions. The exact dates and times will be scheduled immediately after casting on the basis of theatre and actor availability (within reason).
HOW TO PREPARE
At the auditions, you'll first learn more about the project and process, and then discuss what you feel you could contribute to the performance. The director will then ask you to perform one or two texts to assess your acting ability. There is nothing to prepare in advance.
YOU MUST REGISTER IN ADVANCE
You should be prepared to attend for the entire session, from 7 pm to 9:30 pm, on Monday 22 April (although the session may end earlier). *** If you are interested but cannot attend on Monday, fill the form out anyway and make a note of it in the comments section!***
AUDITON FORM
Please fill out the audition form by 1 pm on Monday 22 April.
CONTACT
Please email the producer (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) if you have any general queries or scheduling issues.
PAYMENTS
Please note that the Finn-Brit Players is an amateur theatre company and this is not paid work but an opportunity for actors to practice their hobby. If cast, you will have to be a member of the society to participate in the production. Annual membership (February 2024–February 2025) costs 40€ (standard) and 20€ (concessions).

Sylvi by Minna Canth

Sylvi webIn 19th century Finland, a young and spirited young woman, married to a much older man, meets her childhood sweetheart. Carried away by her passion, she commits an unspeakable act and faces loss of freedom, love, and hope. There are no dastardly villains or innocent victims here. Instead, the play is populated by "good" people who live according to the social mores of their day. When one person's personal happiness comes against the social norms, lives are destroyed so that the system can stay intact.

Sylvi is a joint production by the Finn-Brit Players and Soup Troupe.

HOW TO FIND US
The NEW NoName Theatre is at Hietaniemenkatu 7 B in Kamppi. The entrance is technically on Lapuankatu, past the K-Market. Ring the "5th Floor" buzzer to the left of the blue gate under the "Keskisuomalainen Osakunta" sign. The main door will probably be unlocked, but if not, ring the fifth-floor buzzer by the door. Once inside, take the elevator up to the fifth floor.

SCHEDULE
The doors will open 30 minutes before the start. Please arrive in good time – due to the setup of the stage, latecomers cannot be admitted.

ACCESSIBILITY
There is an elevator to the fifth floor. Unfortuately, the premises do not have a wheelchair accessible bathroom.

Submissions for Macabre Morsels #2

Stop All The Downloadin' Productions and the Finn-Brit Players are bringing back Macabre Morsels this fall and we're all dying to hear what sick and twisted ideas you're hiding in that skull! Macabre Morsels is an evening of terrifyingly original one-acts aimed at telling stories that lean into the darker side of life and we're officially starting to accept submissions for scenes to be included in this October's deadly line-up! Exact performance dates & times soon to be finalised, but the production weeks will be in NoName Theatre from 21 October – 2 November.

REQUIREMENTS
- Scripts must be no longer than 20 minutes in length
- Premise must have a dark/horror theme (inclusive of campy/comedic horror)
- Technical requirements must be minimal (where lighting and sound are concerned)
- Clean-up should be easy
- You must be interested in directing it yourself or partner with a director in advance
- You must be available for the two productions week at the end of October

You do not need to submit a completed script (although completed scripts are most welcome!), but do submit a fully-fleshed idea. What will the story be, how many characters, what kind of staging, and how props/effects intensive it will be.

WHO TO CONTACT
If you're interested in participating, please e-mail your submissions to Salvador Esparza (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and Leben Norrie (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) by 24 May at the latest. Salvador & Leben will make review submissions and make decisions in June in order to plan for auditions in August.

BACKSTAGE
If you're interested in getting involved behind the scenes (publicity, tech, stage management, props, etc.), please also reach out to us expressing your interest as we line up our production team this summer!

ACTORS
Interested in acting? Be on the lookout for future information about auditions in August!

Hope to hear from you spooky ghouls soon!

Auditions for "The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant"

Welcome to auditions for "The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant" by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, directed by Matthew Paines, Auditions will be held at the NEW NoName Theatre Helsinki (Hietaniemenkatu 7B) on Saturday 24 February at 2 pm. Please note that you must register in advance in order to participate.

The PLAY
The five-act play, said to be Fassbinder’s version of “Death in Venice”, is completely played out in Petra’s ‘Kitsch und Kunst’ boudoir-cum-studio viz her relationships with and between the various women coming and going. Petra’s world is beautiful, and nothing unlovely is allowed, all must be perfect. But cupid shoots an arrow in her gears! Has Petra found love? Will it work out?

ACTING ROLES
Petra – Countess Petra von Kant (35) is a successful fashion designer- arrogant, caustic, and self-satisfied.
Marlene – The Maid. Androgynous, ageless, impressively bewigged and sensibly shod, this is a very challenging non-speaking role.
Sidonie – Sidonie von Grassenab (35) is Petra’s bestie and cousin, therefore another countess.
Karin – Karin Thimm (23) is a working-class ingénue who’s somehow inveigled this nest of minor nobility.
Valerie – The dowager countess Valerie von Kant, Petra’s disappointed mother.
Gabi – Gabriella Von Kant is Petra’s daughter, a cheeky schoolgirl (about 17-18).
